Today you’re one step closer to a new you. When you begin your work with Katherine, you’ll feel empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being. As a solution focused therapist since 1981, Katherine has helped thousands of people navigate through life transitions and difficult times.
Her role as your therapist is to offer support, encouragement, guidance and insight as you learn new life skills to break free from negative emotions and habits. It is easy to get “stuck” when encountering life difficulties. Katherine will help you identify and focus on positive goals and changes to create the life you desire. She is committed to helping you live a meaningful and balanced life.
Katherine understands that while we cannot change difficult and painful situations from the past, she can help you work to better understand past challenges and how they affect your life today. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, Katherine can help you unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling life.
Some of Katherine’s interests as a therapist include working with couples, adolescents and individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, step-family issues, mid-life transitions, “empty nest” and parenting concerns. Katherine also is very experienced in working with trauma, PTSD, military life issues, combat recovery, chronic illness and pain management. Another particular interest where she has worked with many clients is affair recovery, internet pornography addiction and helping individuals to stop engaging in “on-line” affairs.
In addition to her work as a therapist, Katherine also is a popular presenter at conferences throughout the United States and Europe teaching the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and Marriage and Family programs. She also teaches “Developmental Assets” for youth, a program from the University of Minnesota “Search Institute” based on the research and discoveries of “What teens need to succeed”. Katherine has also developed, with Maureeen Griner, LPC, the “Warm it Up” Facilitator workbook and training and has instructed hundreds of professionals in how to become better group facilitators and teachers through the exercises she and Maureen created in their “Warm it Up’ series.
Katherine spentten years working as a Consultant for the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement through the “Refugee Healthy Marriage and Family” program.She developed programs for refugee families and teens and provided staff training for refugee sites throughout the United States. Katherine has also worked as an independent Contractor for the Department of Defense in developing pre and post deployment programs for the Army, Navy and Air Force. She has developed programs for returning soldiers and families to cope with the emotional and physical impacts of combat. Additionally, Katherine spent seven years as a consultant for the Federal Healthy Marriage Initiative and you can find several of her articles, webinars and tip sheets for strengthening families and marriage on-line at the National Healthy Marriage Resource Center.
Katherine received her Masters of Social Work degree in 1981 from the University of Washington. She spent 15 years as a Clinical Social Worker working for the United States Military as a civilian in Japan, Spain, Germany, Washington and California. She was in private practice in Colorado Springs for 18 years before returning to Germany to work as a school counselor at the Wiesbaden Middle School in Wiesbaden Germany after her own children left home for college. She loves to work with middle school age children!. She has recently returned to Colorado to be closer to her young adult daughters.

Katherine loves her profession, and even after 35 years as a Therapist she still looks forward to coming to work each day!
