My name is Melissa and I’m a calm, gentle and soft-spoken person. I was recently described as: “Calm and collected, serene, an excellent listener, non-judgmental, open, kind, thoughtful, accepting, welcoming and heartfelt.” When you meet me for the first time, you’ll sense a compassionate and non-judgmental atmosphere. Then, together, we can create a safe space for you to set down your burdens, invite your emotions for a cup of tea and conversation, and begin exploring all of the possibilities and potential that life has to offer you.
Within sessions, I utilize a creative, dynamic and flexible approach to therapy which I tailor to suit the needs of each individual I meet with. I may use traditional talk therapy, EMDR techniques, sand play therapy, other play therapy approaches, art therapy, and other explorations of the Self through discussions on spirituality, quotes, stories and folklore, reading suggestions, guided meditations and more. I am fascinated by the unique life stories each of my clients have to tell and can help you uncover the special meaning held within the experiences you have had.
I work with individuals of all ages, and have several years of experience working with children. This experience includes treatment to resolve early childhood trauma, issues related to abuse and neglect, treatment of children in the foster care system, issues within foster families and kinship placement, parent education, and parent coaching.
I also have many specialties, including (1) sand play therapy based off of Jungian psychoanalysis and (2) the treatment of trauma and PTSD using my advanced training in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).
If you feel as if I could be a good fit for you, please feel free to reach out to schedule a session.
