About Adam Johnson, MA, LPC

Adam understands life is hard and that seeking counseling is a big deal. He welcomes you into a calm, warm, and friendly atmosphere where you'll feel comfortable. He wants you to feel safe so you can be yourself and engage authentically, with both laughter and tears when necessary. He will build a therapeutic relationship with you based on strong trust and rapport, a relationship where you'll be honored as the expert about you.

Adam takes on the role of a guide—a fellow traveler—to help clients get from “here to there.” Adjustment issues, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, addiction, abuse, relationship troubles are only some of what he helps clients to address. Tools he uses include active listening, empathy, and psychoeducation. If it's okay with a client, he utilizes Animal Assisted Therapy with the help of his therapy dog, Hobbs (and yes, the dog hair is free).

Modalities he subscribes to are Animal Assisted Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the non-spandex wearing parts of Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), and he's always open to learning new theories, modalities, and interventions.

Adam has Master's degrees in both Counseling Psychology and in Christian Studies. He has much experience working with clients ages 11 to 82 from all over the world as a counselor. He's also an an ordained minister and was active in Christian ministry as a chaplain for 10 years.
