Working with Amelia, clients can face and overcome many challenges, such as grief and loss, infertility and miscarriage, depression, anxiety, relational issues, and life struggles related to self-esteem and family of origin. Amelia is comfortable with spiritual exploration, and believes in the power of connecting with nature and the outdoors during times of intense suffering and pain. She's also comfortable working with conditions, behaviors and diagnoses considered to be severe and persistent mental illness, like schizophrenia, psychosis, severe depression, bipolar, schizoaffective disorder, and more.
Amelia believes each person's healing experience is unique and specific to them. With that in mind, she tailors care utilizing active listening, intense validation, and strengths-based approaches. She subscribes to person-centered and eclectic modalities of therapy as she builds relationships that support restoration and recovery.
With a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation and Substance Abuse Counseling from East Carolina University, Amelia has worked in the field of behavioral health and recovery for over 25 years, including 16 years working in community mental health. She's a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor here in Colorado. Born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina, Amelia feels extremely grateful to call Colorado "home" since 2013.
