You can expect to feel a sense of empathy, understanding, and empowerment in your therapeutic journey with Alberto. You’ll feel a sense of validation and of being valuable, even in your worst and darkest moments. You’ll feel safe when you cry, and sometimes laugh as you wipe away tears.
Phase of life problems, occupational and school problems, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, anger, and executive dysfunction are just some of the challenges that Alberto’s clients can learn to manage or overcome. They also can learn to hurdle obstacles as they move toward their goals, to trim the hedges of the turf maze constructed by their emotions so that they can see a way out of it, and to endure the cold ocean of circumstances that are just a part of life.
Alberto uses tools such as active listening, behavioral activation, communication-analysis, assertiveness training, thought challenging, skills-training, coaching, and other tools to address thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors that are not helpful as well as identify and develop ones that are. His style is technically eclectic with a health combination of CBT, IPT, and Insight-Focused Therapy. He adapts his approach to meet clients’ needs.
With a Doctorate degree in School Psychology, Alberto has experience conducting clinical and neuropsychological testing, and providing therapy, case management, and direct intervention in schools, colleges, and private practices. He’s worked with individuals across the age span, including children with behavioral issues, adolescents with depression or anxiety, young adults with relationship and school issues, middle-aged adults coping with divorce, and older adults struggling to adapt to retirement and the empty-nest syndrome.
Alberto strives to help his clients develop insight into their own behaviors, as well as the impetus to change the ones that no longer suit them. He believes in a wrap-around approach, so will collaborate with the people or other providers in a client’s life and work as a team. He also speaks Spanish and works with Latinos/as who are struggling with acculturation and assimilation into their new and old cultures.
