You’ll feel understood and accepted when you meet with Kate as she’s open minded and nonjudgmental. She’s also fun loving and will bring her sense of humor into most sessions if appropriate as a way to help you feel at ease. Your work together will be collaborative, authentic, and enlightening, and it will empower you to live a more authentic and purposeful life. Kate’s primary specialization is sex therapy, and helping people make sense of their sexual and gender identities. She also enjoys working with people on a variety of issues, like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and overcoming existential distress and questions around their purpose. She often relies on Emotion Focused Therapy and attachment theory, but also draws from Motivational Interviewing, Sensate Focus, Somatic Practices, Gottman Methods, Brief Solutions Focused, relationally-focused, and person-centered modalities. With a Master’s degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis and a concentration in sexual health and therapy, Kate has worked with survivors of sexual assault, trauma, and intimate partner violence; patients with severe mental health concerns ranging from debilitating depression to psychotic symptoms in hospital settings; and individuals and couples around topics such as gender and sexuality exploration, discrepancy in desire for intimacy and connection within a couple, and shame and guilt around sexual expression.
