You'll experience a sense of calm when you meet with Nathan. He'll meet you where you are in a non-judgmental way, and support you in sharing information and exploring difficult topics. You'll feel cared for and safe as you journey toward resolutions and solutions for whatever you're dealing with.
Nathan empowers clients to view their distressing challenges, such as depression, anxiety, and anger, in a more manageable way. Clients can improve communication skills and be able to have healthier and more satisfying relationships with other people.
Nathan uses active listening to help clients feel heard and seen. He teaches practical, easy-to-use skills to empower people to tackle problems on their own and may assign homework between sessions to reinforce the skills. Modalities Nathan draws from include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, existentialism, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and solution-focused techniques.
With a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health and Counseling, Nathan has worked in community mental health, crisis, detox, and university counseling settings. He practices the skills he teaches, being mindful and meditating on a daily basis. He enjoys hiking with his wife and kids, playing hockey and other sports, camping, and petting his cat.
