"I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who came to Heart-Centered Counseling after working at a rural community health center for the past four years,” Thomas explains. “My experience brought me into contact with a broad range of mental health concerns, ranging from mild anxiety to severe psychosis. “I treat each client with dignity and empathy, and help everyone I work with connect with their unique blend of strengths and capabilities. The coping strategies I offer provide insight and understanding of past hardships, offer tributes to already-learned strategies, as well as opening doorways into new ways forward.” Some of Thomas’s treatment concepts stem from Recovery Oriented Cognitive Therapy, a system in which he’s specially certified. His experience — helping individuals reintegrating into community life following in-patient stays — has laid the background for helping all his patients reconnect with family and friends, as well as establishing meaningful relationships, new interests, and new careers. His background has also provided insight into helping individuals seeking mental health treatment for the first time: recognizing their strengths, as well as overcoming the concerns that led them to this new place.Thomas received his MSW (Master’s in Social Work) from Florida State University. He was initially licensed through the State of Georgia, and then transferred to Colorado. Thomas has worked in crisis centers, intensive outpatient programs, substance abuse accountability courts, and Assertive Community Treatment. He has evening appointments available for those who are busy during normal business hours.
