Valerie helps her clients recognize triggers and learn coping skills to manage many life stressors and issues, including depression, anxiety, anger, mood instability, and low self-esteem. To help clients feel heard, she utilizes active listening. To help clients challenge negative self-talk, she employs techniques to identify and change thinking errors. To help clients manage feelings of anxiety, Valerie teaches relaxation skills. She'll select from several modalities when developing treatment plans, and frequently uses CBT and motivational interviewing.
Valerie received a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2006. Her experience includes the treatment of adults and adolescents in outpatient and community mental health settings. For many years, she worked with a clinical-forensic population providing individual and group therapy, a specialty court program, and an outpatient restoration services program.
