Does My Child Need a Therapist?
You’re here because you’re the sort of caring parent who wants your child to thrive, even when times get tough. We want you to know that you’re in the right place. We have several counselors on staff with years of experience working with children and teens.
Whatever your child is struggling with, this is a place to find help.
If your child or teen is experiencing any of the following, he or she would likely benefit from a visit with one of our counselors:
- Sadness, tearfulness, or depression
- Social withdrawal or isolation
- Excessive angry outbursts or acting out
- Decreased interest in activities he or she previously enjoyed
- Drastic mood swings
- Alcohol, drug, or substance abuse
- Attention deficits (ADD/ADHD)
- Sexual, physical, or emotional abuse
- Speech, language, or other developmental delays
- Family separation such as divorce in the family or high-conflict custody disputes
- The death of a close family member, friend, or beloved pet
- Eating disorders or drastic appetite changes
- Irregular sleep, including insomnia or excessive sleepiness
- Complaints of illness (such as headache, upset stomach, or not feeling well) even though a doctor
finds nothing wrong.
What If I Don’t Know What’s Wrong with My Child?
Sometimes a child’s behavior changes dramatically because of something the parents are unaware of or don’t yet understand.
You may not know why your child seems suddenly withdrawn, worried, stressed out, sulky, or tearful. This can be a scary situation for parents, especially for parents who pride themselves on taking an active part in their children’s lives.
If you don’t know what’s wrong with your child, our specially trained counselors are here to help. We’ve encountered many cases where the parents were simply unaware of a situation in their child’s life, and the child was either too scared or too embarrassed to speak about it to his or her parents.
That’s where a specially-trained counselor can be of great assistance. Our therapists are experts at getting to the bottom of an issue. They can help your child or teen regain his or her energy and vitality.
How Does It Work?
Just like our adult and couples counseling, child and teen counseling begins with a confidential phone call or email to our office.
We’ll get you set up with your first appointment. From there we’ll put together a customized healing plan that will serve as the path to recovery for your child or teen.
Common Struggles with Teens and Children
Behavioral Struggles
If your son or daughter demonstrates concerning behaviors and/or emotions, we’ll uncover what’s behind the behavior. We’ll then teach a customized set of empowering skills that will enable your child to reclaim a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
Relationship Difficulties
Sometimes a child’s behavior changes dramatically because of relationship problems the parents are unaware of or do not understand. If your child is struggling with peers, bullying, or ongoing conflicts with either or both parents, we teach effective tools for dealing with communication issues and conflicts of all sorts. We also show your child how to apply these tools to reclaim healthy relationships and develop better coping skills.
